"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me." John 15:4
The theme of the past couple of years can be summed up into one word- abide. The older I get as a believer, the more I realize how weak I truly am. Always prone to wonder, run, hide, give up, unable to do anything right by my own strength. Isn't that exhausting, the act of trying to be a "better person,” always struggling to work for the approval of God and man? It's an endless game I will never win. We, on our own, are unable to become better. We can't change the way we love and treat others, truly, without transformation in our hearts. That's where Jesus comes in. He sets me free from tirelessly trying to be better. He says, "Come and sit with me, come and abide in my love. My grace/love/hope/mercies are new EVERY SINGLE DAY and, if you choose to trust me, you will have full access to all things. Come sit, Cavina. Abide in me." So that's why I decided to name my very first CD "abide." Because without Him, I am nothing. He has provided and has given me all things. And in the sweet words of Josh Garrels, "Nothing is mine that I haven't been given."
